Description

Interested in finding simple yet impactful ways to weave wellness into your professional and personal life?  If so, please join faculty and staff colleagues for Wellness Wednesdays.  Each session offers information, resources, and/or immersion into different wellness modalities that are supported at UMBC.

This talk, presented by Carla Johnston, DCN, MA, MS, CNS, LDN, focuses on the importance of nourishment for those who tend to eat meals alone.  In addition to nutrition, this workshop broadens the conversation to include tips and techniques for shopping and preparing nutrient-dense meals, meal planning strategies and practical ways to enhance daily nourishment.  This workshop focuses on the influence of nourishment on overall health, specifically the digestive and immune systems.

Dr. Carla Johnston is a licensed and board-certified nutritionist in the state of Maryland who recently completed her doctorate in clinical nutrition. She currently holds a M.S. in Herbal Medicine from the University of Integrative Health, along with a M.A. in Applied Sociology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she focused on the impact of chronic illness on aging adults.

Dr. Johnston continues to be a passionate advocate for adults seeking to incorporate health positive behaviors, partnering with those who are seeking to live their best lives through the integration of practices that support the body, mind, and spirit. She specializes in functional nutrition-focused interventions that support digestive, cardiovascular, and immune systems for aging adults.
