Pranayama (yogic breathing) and Meditation.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING YOGA?:
About 7 years!

WHY DID YOU START PRACTICING YOGA?:
Initially, I started my practice to develop flexibility, strength, and balance. Then I found that yoga helped greatly with dealing with mental and emotional struggles as well as stressful times. In addition, with further practice, yoga has helped me develop a sense self, answering the question, “Who am I?”

WHY DO YOU FIND YOGA TO BE BENEFICIAL?:
Yoga gives strategies that help alleviate stress, depression, anxiety and it is relaxing. It develops body awareness, contentedness with self (in various levels of poses/practice). Yoga also teaches patience with yourself. You will learn to create length (which improves posture) and space in the body.
Yoga is good for your health especially blood pressure. It can also be therapeutic with diseases and some injuries. You just feel better after doing yoga! Mind is calm, clear, and centered. The body feels like it did work, but is also more flexible, calm and healed. Teaches you to slow down and feel each pose, to feel your breath, to be aware of your body. It's detoxifying.

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR YOGA CLASS:
Participation in a morning yoga class will give you the best start to the day.  This class helps clear your mind and relax your body to start your day with lovely, positive yoga feeling. I incorporate all aspects of yoga.  This includes meditation, pranayama (or yogic breathing), yoga philosophy and themes.  I instruct with a sweet, soothing voice that guides students through meditation, breathing, and a variety of postures. Each class has “yoga nap time” or corpse pose or savasana, which is a guided relaxation meditation at the end of each class.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU MIGHT ADD:
Yoga comes from the word “yoke” which means to bring together. Yoga is the bridge between body and mind.  Yoga not only develops muscle tone, strength, flexibility, balance; but also brings focus, clarity, centeredness, relaxation, and stillness to the mind.  My approach to yoga is health based and therapeutic, through developing awareness of the body, and spirit.
